How The Curtain Was Raised
In March 2022, American Ballet Theatre was on tour at the Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa, California. Erica Lall was cast in a principal role. Erica and her mom, Hermione, purchased tickets for her relatives who were very supportive on her journey to becoming a dancer. They lived in the area and their hearts were bursting to witness this starring moment on the stage. When the relatives found that they could not make it to the performance, Erica decided that the tickets should go to others who would be specially touched to see her performance. She chose to donate the eight tickets to two dance studios in local communities. Her wish was that talented and deserving ballet students would have the opportunity to be touched and inspired to see themselves reflected through her, in a major role.
The studio directors took great care in choosing the recipients, emphasizing the rarity and value of the gift of the tickets. The response from the students, studio directors, instructors and parents was overwhelming. Many of the students had never been to a major theater or seen a professional ballet company performing at the highest level. They described the experience as life changing. At that moment, an unmet need in our communities was discovered. Erica and Hermione were compelled to continue to do their part to fill that need. Every child deserves to know that they can dream of a future at the highest height. The support we provide encourages students of the performing arts who have not yet been given permission to reach for the stars.
How It Works
Through Opportunitix, potential recipient beneficiary studios and schools are selected for the ticket programs.
Nomination forms aid in the selection process. Donors provide funds to purchase tickets to performances and may also contribute already purchased or comped tickets.
The Opportunitix team seeks to provide tickets to performances that are relevant to the specific art form that the student is currently studying.
Our team coordinates either the electronic delivery of tickets to the recipients or the delivery of the tickets to the box office for pick up, with the studio/school directors, instructors, parent, guardian, or Adult Chaperone.
We delight in the care and heart that the studio/school staff show in choosing just the right students to benefit from these potentially life-changing performances.

Our sole goal is to bring the highest level of the arts community to those who do not have regular access to events, such as professional ballets, operas, musical plays, and other performing arts.
Opportunitix is based in Houston but our programs currently serve the United States, including cities from New York to LA.

Why It Matters
The arts are some of the most important elements of education, and exposure to the world around us. They are vital for growth in creativity, artistry, and for gaining life experience. For some, it can be outside of financial means or opportunity to be able to experience these types of performances or events.
Bringing these opportunities to underprivileged/overlooked students means helping them grow into a more confident, artistic, understanding, and experienced individual.
In turn, we create a more artistic and well-rounded society.

Testimonials

Thanks to Hermione at Opportunitix.
Our students at Harlem School of the Arts had the opportunity to see the Metropolitan Opera's production of "The Rake's Progress" with Golda Schultz and Raehann Bryce-Davis. Our students saw vocalists and musicians that look like them doing the artform at the highest level.
Yolanda Wyns, Music Chair -
Opportunitix allowed our students to view world-class performances at Lincoln Center.
Oftentimes children from our program do not have the access to attend these concerts. We deeply thank Opportunitix for their generosity in making arts viewership more accessible to all.
